BERLIN BIENNALE 2.0
SOFTWARE
Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects
Translating art, drama, dialogue, experimentation, and controversies into the rebranding of the ultra-contemporary art event, The Berlin Biennale. Inspired by the Bauhaus aesthetic and school of thought, this approach centers on the dialogue between overlapping colors and elements, representing the diverse opinions, ideas, and expressions that make this event a melting pot of the global art scene.
ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN
PROBLEM
The original design is pretty cool ngl. It focuses on pairing abstract shapes and color blocking for a simplistic look. However, I wanted it to be absorbed more intuitively and follow a consistent identity that was suggestive of the Berlin Biennale.
VIBE
Contemporary, Energetic, Solid
and Provocative
WHAT I DID
I used the original design as a starting point. I created a dynamic word mark that is both abstract and suggestive, representing the nature of the biennale. Beyond that, I let the colors do their job, referencing the Bauhaus aesthetic while choosing an energetic palette to represent the event's dynamic and subversive spirit. The design came to life when the most contrasting colors harmonized.
My biggest challenge was maintaining the right balance between being experimental with the colors and avoiding visual overload. I overcame this challenge by using good stacking and negative space.
WORD MARK
This form is inspired by the event's initials, BB from the Berlin Biennale. I designed it to be dynamic and flexible to suit different conditions supporting the campaign while remaining consistent and recognizable.
